Former England international cricketer Alex Hartley has spoken about the online abuse she received after she posted a tweet about England’s two-day Test match defeat against India last week.
Hartley used Twitter to promote the women’s one-day international match against New Zealand after the England men’s team suffered a 10-wicket defeat in Ahmedabad.
“Nice of the England boys to get this test match finished just before England Women play tonight,” Hartley wrote.
Test opener Rory Burns responded in a tweet, that was liked by James Anderson and Ben Stokes, but has since been deleted: “Very disappointing attitude considering all the ‘boys’ do to support the women’s game.”
On a No Balls podcast with the current England international Kate Cross, Hartley insisted that her tweet was only a tongue-in-cheek but she has received abuses on social media.
Nice of the England boys to get this test match finished just before England Women play tonight 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
