Burger King UK faces severe backlash after it tweeted “women belong in the kitchen” on International Women’s Day.

Burger King UK said that the tweet “highlights the enormous lack of female representation within the restaurant industry.”

The first from its series of tweets was read: “Women belong in the kitchen,” which then responded to and criticised by the online users.

The food company add the second tweet with adding: “Of course, if they wish to.”

“Yeah we think it’s a good idea,” the chain continued, before going on to point out their scholarship programme for female in the culinary industry.

Despite the full series of the Twitter thread, many online users did not fond of the company’s play on the offensive stereotype.

Burger King UK has since deleted the tweet.
