As many as 10,000 fans will be allowed to watch the FA Cup final in person on May 15, two days before the relaxation of restrictions on crowds.
The government will assess the scientific data from the cup final to determine how supporters could return to stadiums with being tested for the coronavirus in advance and potentially without social distancing.
Culture Secretary Oliver Dowden said, “These test events will be crucial in finding ways to get fans and audiences back in safely without social distancing.”
“We will be guided by the science and medical experts, but will work flat out to make that happen,” he added.
“We would love to be able to welcome fans back to the home of English football ahead of what is set to be a great summer of sport,” said Mark Bullingham, English Football Association chief executive.
