Police have seized 2.3 tonnes of cocaine worth up to £184 million smuggled into the UK in a cargo full of bananas from Colombia.
Following an armed raid at an industrial zone in Tottenham on Thursday, ten men aged 21 to 56 were detained.
Three of them have been charged with importing Class A drugs, while the other seven were remanded in police custody.
National Crime Agency Special Operations manager John Coles said: “The numbers here speak for themselves; this is a massive seizure that has denied organised criminals hundreds of millions in profits, and is the result of a targeted investigation conducted jointly by the NCA and Met Police.”
Detective superintendent Simon Moring said tackling drug smuggling is important as there is “an inextricable link” between drugs and violence.
