Raab DENIES claims over ‘outright ban’ on Covid vaccine exports

Dominic Raab

Dominic Raab hit back against European Council president Charles Michel after the latter claimed the UK was facing an “outright” export ban on Covid vaccine exports.

“I wanted to set the record straight. The UK government has not blocked the export of a single COVID-19 vaccine or vaccine components,” Raab wrote on the Foreign Office website on Tuesday evening.

“Any references to a UK export ban or any restrictions on vaccines are completely false. We are all facing this pandemic together,” added the Foreign Secretary.

This was an indirect response to Michel’s accusation of the UK for having vaccine nationalism as he said in a newsletter on Tuesday: “The United Kingdom and the United States have imposed an outright ban on the export of vaccines or vaccine components produced on their territory.”

Michel has slightly backtracked after being responded by the UK, saying on Twitter that he was “glad that the response leads to more transparency & increased exports, to EU and third countries.”
