Royal Mail will trial its Sunday delivery service for several major retailers to take on Amazon in the seven-days-a-week delivery market.
This initiative was taken because more customers are expecting Sunday delivery as part of their online shopping.
COO Nick Lankin said, “The UK already trusts us to deliver their purchases six days a week both quickly and conveniently. Now, for the first time, our posties will be doing the same thing seven days a week.”
Last year, the company claimed to have handled the largest number of parcels of all time and shipped 496 million parcels in the third quarter to December 27.
Royal Mail is also building its second and largest package hub – capable of handling up to one million packages per day – in Daventry, Northamptonshire.
