Officials investigating the murder of Sarah Everard sealed off an area of the town of Sandwich, Kent.
Council official Dan Friend said police had cordoned off a section of The Rope Walk from New Street through to the Cow Leas Meadow area.
The Metropolitan Police also set up a tent in the Guildhall car park on the west side of the barricades.
Officers had routinely been searching swathes of London and Kent as part of the investigation.
Speaking to reporters outside Scotland Yard, Assistant Police Commissioner Nick Ephgrave said the police was determined to bring justice to Sarah after her body was discovered in the woods.
